Here on my websites and equipment page you can read about various other businesses which are involved in the workings of these websites and the equipment I use to run nigelbarksfield.co.uk. There is also some linkware at the bottom to help you link to my websites.

This award-winning nigelbarksfield.co.uk website was largely authored on my Oregon Scientific Osaris palmtop computer (reviewed) and uploaded via Dell PCs by FTP to WebPG.net's servers in California. The PCs were available at Quarks cybercafe, Guildford, U.K.. It has been moved to Philhosting.net since then.

The Osaris had 4mb of memory as sold to me but I expanded it to 16mb total with a compact flash memory chip. This means I could backup files to the extra memory and had plenty of space for surfing and emails.

The Osaris connected via its infrared port to my Ericsson SH888 mobile phone and modem.

I then used a Toshiba Satellite Pro 440CDX laptop computer with which I maintained two/three websites. This was obtained secondhand from Baber.com in Texas, in the United States. My first impression was that it was a very solid machine and well worth the money. After an initial problem with cheap software the machine worked very well.

I could at last transfer files using FTP and the MSDOS screen; something which made the task of maintaining the sites a lot easier. Its hard disc drive had ample space and it also had an external floppy diskette drive for transferring files manually. A great buy and well worth checking out if you're in the market for a laptop computer.

Unfortunately the Toshiba fell victim to an errant worm, trojan or other unidentified virus and it has been replaced with an eBOX PC running Windows XP Pro from a local store...NBSolution no less! Thanks very much to them.

The new PC has a 56k modem which suggests much faster surfing than with the Toshiba but alas, due to various technical reasons, it usually connects at 26Kbs so downloads can be a little long. The software needed a serious update almost straightaway but is now protected by a firewall and seems very capable.

In 2006 I merged nbarksfield.co.uk with nigelbarksfield.co.uk to form just this one website.
